Bringing "Nazar" to Cairo: Celebrating Lara Kobeissi's Journey at D-CAF

This November, we are excited to support artist Lara Kobeissi as she brings her captivating multisensory performance, Nazar, to the Downtown Contemporary Arts Festival (D-CAF) in Cairo. Lara was one of the talented artists supported through the Resonate program, where she developed her unique artistic voice and experimented with new technologies like XR. We are incredibly proud of how she has evolved as an artist, and Nazar represents the culmination of her exploration into the intersection of tradition and innovation.

Nazar is an immersive live performance that incorporates virtual reality and interactive storytelling, transporting audiences into a distant future where they explore the excavated home of a virtual dweller in search of personalized Evil Eye treatments.

Through visuals, sound, smell, taste, and touch, the performance weaves a ritualistic act of soft resistance, restoring the body, collective memory, and intangible heritage. As Lara takes her work to D-CAF, we are committed to continuing our collaboration and supporting her growth as she pushes the boundaries of immersive art. We can’t wait for Cairo audiences to experience Nazar and witness the incredible journey she’s undertaken.
