At Play Office, we recently hosted a hands-on workshop led by Tom Ward, where participants took a full creative pipeline from physical to digital — all in one fun, educational session.
We began with basic clay modeling — no screens, just hands and imagination. This step encouraged a tactile, intuitive design process, making 3D approachable for everyone, regardless of experience.

Once our characters were sculpted, we used Scaniverse, a powerful LiDAR-based iOS app, to scan the clay models into 3D meshes. It captures geometry and texture quickly, producing high-res models suitable for animation.

We then imported the scans into Adobe Mixamo, which automatically rigs characters with skeletons and lets you apply a library of animations. No manual bone setup required — just upload, align, and animate.

Finally, we brought our animated models into STYLY, a platform for building WebXR experiences. STYLY supports drag-and-drop scene creation, making it easy to integrate animated assets into VR/AR environments — no coding necessary.

Participants walked away with a full pipeline experience: from sculpting to scanning, rigging to animating, and finally publishing their creations in immersive 3D spaces. A fun, inspiring intro to creative tech — and a great example of bridging physical and digital worlds.
